Before Surgery Medication FAQ
-
At your scheduled pre-op. Our PA, Katelyn will go over all of your medications that will be prescribed for your recovery and how to take them at your pre-op appointment. She will review side effects and if there might be any interactions with the medications you are currently taking and when to discontinue, if applicable. Please review the pre-op drug list for things to stop as early as two weeks prior to surgery.

Go to GoodRx.com or download the GoodRx app. Not all medications Katelyn and Dr. Peled prescribe for your recovery may be covered by every patient’s insurance. Knowing how to navigate the system is important to getting a reasonable price for your prescriptions. You can either go to GoodRx.com or download the app to your smartphone. Once on the website or in the application, type in the name of the medication that isn’t covered by your insurance and the quantity (aka, the number of pills) and it will give you a cash-pay price with a coupon. It’s important to show this to your pharmacist when picking up your prescription since many pharmacies will price match, but only if you have the coupon.

Discuss this with Katelyn at your pre-op. If you have already had surgery and know what works well for you, elevate that to Katelyn prior to your pre-op via a patient portal message or alert her at your pre-op appointment. She will make every accommodation she can to ensure your recovery runs smoothly. Do you know if you’ve had severe post-op nausea and vomiting after a different procedure? Do you know if a certain pain medication works better for you over others? Do you not tolerate certain medications? Let her know. We are here to make your recovery journey a smooth one.
